We weren’t even allowed a full work week to recover from watching James Harden drop a 30-point triple double in his opener with the Nets, now we’re getting strapped in for another ride on the rollercoaster that is Houston Sports of late. Here’s what ya missed yesterday:
January 19th, 2021 – 9:55PM CST
Jon Hayman sent the tweet that Astros fans had been dreading for months, but knew was coming. 2017 World Series MVP George Springer has signed a 6-year $150M deal to take his talents to Toronto. A sad day, no doubt, but also one of solace. You love to see a guy like George get what’s coming to him, dude straight up earned it. He’ll be dearly missed at the top of the order, and no one will ever forget what he brought to the city of Houston, but I think everyone here is happy to see our boy get PAID.
January 20th, 2021 – 10:51AM CST
The next morning, it appeared like things were just getting worse for the meat of the Astros lineup when Hazel Mae reported that Michael Brantley, too, was headed to the Blue Jays on a 3-year deal. The fire in Minute Maid’s outfield felt like it was growing hotter.
January 20th, 2021 – 12:09PM CST
Roughly 2 hours later & now no one knew what to believe. Mark Feinsand contradicts Mae’s earlier report, claiming that no official deal had yet materialized between Brantley & the Blue Jays. Perhaps things weren’t as they seemed?
January 20th, 2021 – 2:23PM CST
While we all sulked over the Rockets & worried about the Astros, Ian Rapoport wanted to put things into perspective for Houstonians by reminding us of the dumpster fire that’s ablaze in NRG. He tweeted out a segment from NFL Now which was centered around the potential market for Texans’ quarterback Deshaun Watson. Apparently, everyone is interested. Great.
January 20th, 2021 – 3:02PM CST
Mark Berman breaks news that makes us feel like we’ve went from rags to riches: Michael Brantley is resigning with the Astros on a 2-year $32M deal. Idk if he was pissed about news getting released early or if he just couldn’t quit the quality of Tacos in Houston, but Uncle Mike is back with the band.
Twists, turns & a couple loopdy-doops. Another day, another dollar for Houston sports. What will tomorrow hold? Find out on our next segment of WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?!
